Training, What are healthy dog treats?

Dog trainers in naples use treats in dog training as a form of reward. If you plan to train your dog at home you should consider using treats too! Don’t get discouraged by the price because you can always provide treats straight out of your kitchen and pantry. Yes, you read that right. You don’t need to frequently visit the pet store to purchase expensive dog treats. It’s also important to be wary of these commercial treats because if you use these treats to feed your dog every time you train it, it could gain unwanted weight. What type of foods found in your home can you use as dog treats? Let’s find out.

Apples – if you love apples in your salad most definitely your dog will love them too! Apple slices would make great dog treats. Not only are they tasty and full of fiber, but this sweet fruit is also super healthy you won’t feel guilty feeding your dog with it. However, be sure to remove the core and the seeds so you won’t choke your dog.

Green Peas – regardless if it’s frozen or fresh, green peas are great to use as dog treats. Whenever your dog obeys your command, make sure to hand a couple of green peas or pour some in its bowl. Green peas are tasty and nutritious.

Carrots – carrots are not just for bunnies, that’s for sure. Apparently, dogs love them too! Carrots are packed with vitamins and beta carotene, making them a healthy snack for your beloved pet. It’s a convenient snack because almost every household has carrots in the fridge. But, instead of giving a whole carrot to your dog, we recommend you slice it into small chunks so that it’s easy for your dog to chew and swallow.

Green Beans – if you have green beans in your fridge and you don’t know what to do with them we suggest you cut them into pieces and use them as dog treats! However, don’t attempt to season the green beans, not even salt! Give it as it is. Your dog will love them! They’re also a great source of fiber that aids in healthy digestion.

Watermelon – Watermelon is juicy, sweet, and succulent no wonder dogs get giddy whenever you feed them with watermelon slices. It’s rich in lycopene and vitamin C plus is low in calories so you don’t have to worry about your dog gaining extra weight.

Sweet potatoes – another great treat you can feed your pet is a sweet potato. It’s great because you can store it in the fridge and it won’t go stale. You can roast or boil sweet potatoes but never give them to your dog raw. That’s a big no-no.

Bananas – Bananas are jampacked with vitamins and nutrients. With their sweet taste, bananas would make amazing treats that you can use to reward your dog during training. But a word of warning, bananas are high in sugar. When you feed your dog, feed it in moderation.

Broccoli – if you’re not a fan of broccoli then at least give them to your dog. It’s a great vegetable as it’s loaded with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to keep your pup healthy. Cut broccoli into tiny pieces and use them as treats during dog training. You can roast them, steam them or you can give them raw as long as you wash them thoroughly. Again, don’t season your veggies.

Strawberries – who doesn’t love strawberries? They are a mix of sweet and tangy and they are healthy too! We’re sure your dogs will love strawberries whether they’re freshly picked or served frozen.

Takeaway

These healthy treats are cost-efficient and healthy. So you see, you don’t need to pay for expensive dog treats when training your dog. You just have to visit your kitchen and see what’s in there.
